History:
The M3 Stuart is a light American tank which was also used by the British forces. Its nickname was a tribute to General Stuart from the American Civil war. 10.432 tanks were built overall, and different versions were designed. It is mainly armed with a 37 mm canon which can pierce through 15 mm of steel at a maximum distance of 2.000 m. This M3A1 Stuart bears the same livery as the US Cavalry's tanks during the Torch operation which initiated the invasion of North Africa on November 8th 1942.
Origin and condition:
The exterior restoration has been done. However, the interior electric and mechanical restoration remains unfinished. This tank was found in Brazil and joined the collection in 2008. The engine would have to be reinstalled.
Description:
This Stuart's accessories and exterior equipments are original. It is equipped with a hoisting sling, two coaxial browning 30 cal. guns on the turret, a cradle support, a cover and various accessories including a shovel, an axe and a pickaxe. The crew's suits and equipment reflect the harsh conditions of the North African campaign. Because of the unbearable heat and dust, this tank driver wears an original anti-dust mask.
Technical annex:
One complete 7 cylinder radial Continental engine, not mounted on the vehicle, two reproduction 30 cal. machines guns , one cradle, shovel, axe, pickaxe, cotton water bucket, one lot of US Army tarps, 5 spare-part boxes for American vehicles (empty).
