Lot no. 57
French title Chassis # 401/267 - Carrozzeria Touring Supperleggera - Finely tuned and honed - Only 611 cars made - No reserve The Bristol Automobiles production division, launched in 1946, was none other than a branch of the Bristol Airplane Company. It was also impossible to deny this aeronautical connection when one checks out the Bristol 401, whose aluminum bodies was fabricated by Carrozzeria Touring using the Supperleggera (superlight) process and whose lines had been refined in the wind tunnel by the aircraft manufacturer. The brilliant engine, meanwhile, came from the BMW 328, improved upon by Bristol engineers to reduce power and improve reliability. The example we are offering was acquired in 2008 by its current owner. The body is in a good condition and has been repainted some years ago. Another engine block served as a basis for the complete repair of the mechanicals at Euroculasse. The engine will need to be honed by the new owner, and the old block will be provided with the car. The bearings of the gearbox were replaced in 2013. The upholstery has been repaired and is well preserved while the dashboard, in it's the original state, is complete. This Bristol, very successful for its period, was offered at a higher price than competitors from Jaguar, and their production remained limited, which makes it a particularly interesting collector's car today.
