1959 Maserati 3500 GT Collection d'un gentleman driver autrichien Titre de circulation US Dédouané dans l'UE Châssis n° AM101*650* - Vendue neuve au mari de Maria Callas - Belle restauration ancienne - Projet intéressant Ainsi que le confirme son attestation d'origine, cet exemplaire est sorti d'usine en octobre 1959, puis fut expédié le 7 décembre 1959, à son premier propriétaire, qui n'était autre que le mari de la célèbre cantatrice Maria Callas, qui résidait alors à Brescia, en Italie. Il existe plusieurs photos d'époque du couple à bord de la Maserati qui était alors blanche. On retrouve ensuite la trace de cette 3500 GT à San Francisco, en Californie, à la fin des années 70, alors qu'elle est toujours en circulation. Une étiquette de vidange de 1977 indiquait 29 134 km au compteur, il en affiche aujourd'hui à peine plus de 41 000. Notre collectionneur en a fait l'acquisition en 2015 auprès d'un marchand allemand. La voiture a bénéficié d'une restauration ancienne lors de laquelle elle a été intégralement repeinte en un élégant rouge sombre. La sellerie en cuir marron avec moquettes assorties est en état d'usage, elle mérite quelques soins tout en préservant son inimitable patine. Le beau tableau de bord comporte son instrumentation d'origine avec le compteur gradué en km/h, complétée d'un autoradio cassette. Faute de temps, la belle 3500 GT n'avait pas roulé depuis son achat. En conséquence, la mécanique a été soigneusement redémarrée début 2022 par le mécanicien en charge de la collection. La voiture est donc roulante mais devra bénéficier d'une révision complète avant d'envisager de longues distances. L'élégance de la carrosserie Touring, mariée à la noblesse de la mécanique Maserati font de la 3500 GT une voiture exceptionnelle, celle-ci l'est plus encore grâce à son historique exceptionnel. US title EU customs cleared Chassis No AM101*650* - Sold new to Maria Callas' husband - Beautiful older restoration - Interesting project As evidenced by its original certificate, this example left the factory in October 1959 and was then shipped to its first owner on 7 December 1959, who was none other than the husband of the famous singer Maria Callas who lived in Brescia, Italy. There are several historical images of the couple aboard the Maserati, seen in white colour at that time. We then tracked this 3500 GT in San Francisco in California at the end of the 1970s. An oil change label from 1977 indicated a mileage of 29,134 km and as of today, it now has just over 41,000 km on the clock. Our collector acquired it in 2015 from a German dealer. The car had been restored in the past, including a full repaint in an elegant dark red colour. The brown leather upholstery with matching carpets is in used condition and deserves some tender loving care while preserving its unique patina. The lovely dashboard has kept its original instrumentation, including the speedometer in km/h and the radio cassette. Due to lack of time, this gorgeous 3500 GT had not been driven since its purchase. Consequently, the engine was carefully restarted in early 2022 by the mechanic in charge of the collection. The car is therefore drivable but will need a full service before considering long distances. The elegance of the Touring bodywork and the greatness of the Maserati engine are what makes the 3500 GT a special car, this one even more so thanks to its exceptional history. Photos © Gregor Mayr
