1960 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Roadster Chassis no. 19804210002512 Clearly the 300SL Coupé would be a hard act to follow, yet the Roadster version, introduced just three years later, succeeded in bettering its closed cousin's already exemplary road manners. Built with conventional doors, the 300SL Roadster was first exhibited at the Geneva Salon in May 1957 and was a hit with the late 1950s jet set including royalty, actors and socialites. It sold well for a car that cost more than a Ferrari 250GT California Spyder and would out-live the 300SL coupé by several years. Roadster production ceased in 1963 after 1,858 cars had been built, and today the model is both rare and highly sought after. Owned by the present Swiss-German enthusiast since 1970, this 1960 model has been continuously maintained in lovely condition throughout, much major work being carried out between 1989-1993. The car received new silver grey paint 10 years ago and major engine work 2 years ago including new cylinders. The engine bay is well presented and clean, the bodywork is excellent and the chromework is superb. The natural leather upholstery and beige carpets complement the coachwork to perfection, and inside the cabin we find a Nardi wood rimmed wheel and discreet modern Pioneer radio/ CD system. The black mohair hood is like new. A file of invoices for servicing accompanies the car, which is Swiss registered and has a valid roadworthiness certificate.
