Lot no. 170
European registration Chassis # 88252 - In very good condition - Roadster version, an evolution of the famous Speedster - A promise of fun in the sun From 1951 to 1965, the Porsche 356 evolved considerably, whatever the model year, it inherited the initial design of Ferdinand and Ferry Porsche: rear engine, an air-cooled flat four, a streamlined body and quality manufacturing. A recipe that has proven successful, even today, since it is still partially applied to the current 911 whose performances have nothing to do with those who worked on the foundation for success of the brand. After the first two generations, the 356 and the 356 A, the 356 B was launched in autumn 1959, which featured significant aesthetic changes that had the Porsche purists (already!) reacting against, but undoubtedly the design became more up to date. Enhanced bumpers, front fenders sloping away gently, the lamps located higher, depending on the model (T5 or T6) two air vents on the bonnet, an enlarged rear window, front hood and hatch became more squarish and the tank filler cap on to the front fender. On the body designation side of things, the Speedster D was renamed Roadster, and going with the renaming, the design retained a windshield that was a little lower and a slightly higher boot line compared to the convertible. A metallic grey with red interior and tonneau cover of the same color, the 356 Roadster that we offer has a Porsche 912 engine and was completely restored by Bob Smith Coachworks, of Gainesville, Texas, which, according to the seller, is a restorer well known for his work on Ferraris. Furthermore, Porsche specialists Auto Service Kraan also worked on the restoration of the car, bringing the car up to this excellent state. The 356 is particularly desirable in this minimalist version, and is much sportier than the standard convertibles.
