1967 LAMBORGHINI 400GT 2+2 SUPERLEGGERA Châssis N° 1096 Présentée au Salon de Genève de mars 1966, la Lamborghini 400 GT 2+2 apparut comme une réponse à la nouvelle Ferrari 330 GT 2+2 (aux places arrière plus confortables par rapport aux 2+2 antérieures) en bénéficiant du passage à quatre litres du splendide moteur Lamborghini V12, dont l'ingénieur Dallara étudiait l'adaptation à la future Miura. L'habitacle de la précédente 350 GT retouché au niveau du pavillon donnait plus d'espace pour accueillir en appoint deux passagers arrière sur une petite banquette, malgré la présence du tunnel de transmission, et le V12 avait gagné non seulement environ 500 cm3, mais surtout 40 ch et un appréciable supplément de couple à un régime inférieur. Par ailleurs, Lamborghini a amélioré et fiabilisé sa transmission en montant une boîte de vitesses manuelle à cinq rapports et un différentiel maison conçus par Dallara. Extérieurement, la modification la plus visible concerne les doubles projecteurs, dont le meilleur rendement lumineux convient mieux à une voiture extrêmement rapide. Une visière antireflet surmonte les instruments principaux en les rendant plus lisibles. La carrosserie, initialement tracée par Franco Scaglione et améliorée par Touring pour la 350 de production, est toujours produite à Milan selon le procédé Superleggera et le niveau de finition comme celui du confort est relevé par rapport à la 350 GT. Avec une vitesse de pointe supérieure à 250 km/h, la 400 GT tient largement tête à la Ferrari 330 GT dont la boîte n'offre encore que quatre rapports avec surmultiplicateur électrique (cinq rapports fin 1966). Cette très élégante Grand Tourisme, fabriquée à Santa Agata en Italie, a été achetée par l'actuel propriétaire dans une vente de Hervé Poulain fin 1992. Franck Opderbeck, le mécanicien du vendeur, a complètement refait le système de freins, changé les amortisseurs, bon nombre de flexibles et de durits, la carrosserie et la peinture ayant été refaites en 93. L'intérieur en cuir tabac est d'origine et présente une superbe patine. La révision allumage/carburation est faite. L'essai routier a été des plus satisfaisant : pression d'huile impeccable et elle ne surchauffe pas. En résumé, une automobile de grande classe agréable à conduire et une importante GT signée Touring. Carte grise française The Lamborghini 400 GT 2+2, first shown at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1966, appeared to be a response to the new Ferrari 330 GT 2+2 (with more comfortable back seats than earlier 2+2s), boosted by the four-litre engine of the splendid Lamborghini V12, which engineer Dallara was looking to adapt to the future Miura. The interior of the previous 350 GT, with modified roof, had extra room to accommodate two passengers in the back, on a small seat, despite the presence of the cardan shaft tunnel; the V12 had gained not just 500cc, but above all 40bhp and appreciably greater torque at lower speed. Lamborghini had also improved the quality and reliability of the transmission, thanks to a five-speed manual gear-box and 'in-house' differential designed by Dallara. The most visible alteration on the outside concerned the double headlights, powerful enough for an extremely fast car. An anti-glare shade had been placed over the main instruments, making them easier to read. The bodywork, initially designed by Franco Scaglione and improved by Touring for the production 350, was still made in Milan using the Superleggera process; levels of comfort and finish were superior to those of the 350 GT. With a top-speed of over 155mph, the 400 GT was more than a match for the Ferrari 330 GT, which still had a four-speed gear-box with electronic overdrive (five speeds at the end of 1966). This very elegant Gran Turismo, manufactured at Santa Agata in Italy, was bought by the current owner at an auction staged by Hervé Poulain in late 1992. Franck Opderbeck, the vendor's mechanic, has completely repaired the braking system; changed the shock-absorbers, flexible tubing and hoses; and the body- and paintwork were restored in 1993. The tobacco-coloured leather interior is original and has a superb patina. The ignition and carburation have been serviced. The road test was highly satisfactory, with impeccable oil pressure and no over-heating. In short: a car of great class, fantastic to drive - and an important GT by Touring.
