Le précieux document confirme qu'elle était de teinte blanc papyrus pour la carrosserie, avec un intérieur cuir bleu nuit, combinaison de couleurs qui a été respectée lors de sa restauration intégrale. L'actuel propriétaire est un collectionneur passionné et exigeant, lui-même concessionnaire Mercedes-Benz dans le nord de l'Italie. Il a été séduit par sa boîte manuelle et son origine européenne, puisque cette 280 SL disposait encore de ses plaques d'immatriculation d'origine de la région d'Alessandria. Ce dernier a procédé à une restauration intégrale de grande ampleur, réalisée au sein de sa concession et spécialement confiée à un mécanicien qui avait travaillé sur ces voitures à l'époque. Une série de photos démontre jusqu'où le soin du détail a été poussé lors de cette remise en état. La carrosserie, saine d'origine, a été entièrement mise à nue et décapée avant d'être repeinte, le moteur d'origine a été intégralement remis en état, tout comme les trains roulants. La sellerie a, quant à elle, été confiée aux excellents établissements Ferraresi, basés à Ferrara. La capote est, comme il se doit, assortie à la sellerie. Le circuit électrique a également été mis à neuf à l'occasion. Achevée en 2018, cette restauration de grande qualité n'a pas perdu de son éclat, le véhicule n'ayant que peu circulé. Les quatre pneus Michelin MXV sont, en conséquence, dans un état proche du neuf. Avec son hard-top et un autoradio Becker Europa d'époque, cette " Pagode " offre un état rare après une restauration exceptionnelle pour ce type de modèle. This valuable document confirms that the body was finished in "Off-white", with a dark blue leather interior, a combination which was kept when the car was fully restored. The current owner is an enthusiastic and exacting collector and a Mercedes-Benz dealer himself in northern Italy. He was attracted by the car's manual gearbox and European origin, since this 280 SL still has its original number plates from Alessandria. He carried out an extensive restoration of the entire car, with the work done in his own dealership by a mechanic who had worked on these cars when they were new. A series of photos shows how much attention to detail was paid during the restoration. The body, which was sound to begin with, was completely stripped down and sandblasted before being repainted. The original engine was fully reconditioned, as was the running gear. The upholstery meanwhile was entrusted to the excellent firm Ferraresi, in Ferrara. Just as it should, the hood matches the upholstery. The electrical system was also completely renewed at this time. Since its completion in 2018, this high-quality restoration has lost none of its lustre, as the car has been driven very little. As a result, the four Michelin MXV tyres are in nearly-new condition.
