An iconic 2CV in the pretty shade Bleu des Tropiques.
- A brilliant concept, the Citroën 2 CV is a simple, robust car requiring very little maintenance. Its origins date back to the 1930s, when Pierre Jules Boulanger, an engineer at Citroën, launched a project for a T.P.V. (Toute Petite Voiture). He was supported by the likes of Flaminio Bertoni and André Lefebvre.
- The first prototype came out in 1937, but its development was unfortunately interrupted by the Second World War. In 1946, testing resumed west of Paris, at La Ferté Vidame, and on 7 October 1948, it caused a sensation at the Paris Motor Show.
- Although much criticised at first, it quickly became a much sought-after object, and it was not unusual to wait several years to take possession of one.
- Although it was discontinued in 1990 after a 42-year career, more than five million examples of this French motoring legend were produced, and it remains the sixth best-selling French car to this day.
- The car featured on these pages is a 2 CV 6, the most accomplished version with its 602cc engine and front disc brakes in particular, and its distinctive Tropical Blue colour. It is presented in good original condition, and will delight its future owner.
