L'année suivante, le sacre de la Peugeot 205 Turbo 16 en championnat du monde des rallyes assoie définitivement l'image de la 205 GTI. Homogène, performante et vendue à un prix abordable, elle fait l'unanimité auprès des journalistes et des passionnés. Pourtant, au fil des millésimes, la concurrence se réarme. Peugeot n'a alors d'autre choix que de lancer une version plus musclée : ainsi la 205 GTI 1.9 est commercialisée en décembre 1986. A legend among GTIs Exceptional condition for a very attractive estimate The most sought after model on the market To compete with the Volkswagen Golf GTI, the true initiator of the GTI line, Peugeot unveiled the 205 GTI 1.6 at the 1984 Geneva Auto Show. The following year, the Peugeot 205 Turbo 16’s win at the world rally championship established definitively the 205 GTI’s image. Consistent, high-performance and sold at an affordable price, it earned unanimous praise from journalists and enthusiasts. However, over the years, the competition became stronger. Peugeot had no other choice at the time except to launch a more powerful version: thus, the 205 GTI 1.9 went on sale in December 1986 with a front spoiler fitted with additional lights, specifically designed back spoiler, a red strip circling the entire body, fender flares, 15-inche alloy rims. The other features that made it different from the 1.6-liter version are the 1,905-cm3 XU9 engine, which produced 130 horsepower, specific suspension/axle assembly and four disc brakes. With these features, the car offered top-rate performance and a truly sporty character, capable of rivalling the most powerful and prestigious GTIs of the time. Our model is extremely rare because it is a used car that only has 68,636 certified km (42,648 miles) on it and is offered in exceptional, 100% original condition. Bought new in July 1987 at the Talbot Tuppin Peugeot dealership in Laon, France, as stated on its complete documentation, this 205 GTI 1.9 belongs among the best vintage models. It is the most sought after today by collectors who love the original dashboard and two-branch steering wheel, which were replaced in September 1987. The car changed hands for the first time in March 2016, becoming the property of the former owner’s friend and neighbour who continued to pamper the car. The body has never been repainted. It has a superb interior with carpets that look like new, impeccable seats, leather that’s shows barely a mark (half-leather option) and interior parts that have no cracks or wear lines. All the dashboard instruments, including the clock, work and the 205 GYI key ring attached to the set of keys is the original one. The car has been regularly serviced at the Peugeot dealership (service documentation, invoices and technical inspection paperwork provided) and was given a major overhaul at Batteux Compétition, a mechanic specialising in the model.
