L’heure était alors venue pour les deux constructeurs de contrer les Italiennes, y compris sur la route. Si McLaren choisit de s’attaquer à la toute jeune F40 en préparant sa F1 pour 1993, Honda allait développer l’une des meilleures sportives de tous les temps : la NSX. Pour cela, le géant japonais allait mettre des moyens considérables à la réalisation de son œuvre, dès 1984. La voiture fut conçue autour d’une caisse porteuse en aluminium et d’un V6 équipé de la technologie VTEC (2x2 arbres à cames en tête et admission variable), le tout, en position centrale arrière, comme sur une Ferrari… Le dessin, lui, s’inspirait du concept Honda HP-X présenté en 1984 et réalisé par Pininfarina, comme sur une Ferrari… La version définitive sera alors dessinée par Ken Okuyama, qui dessinera plus tard les traits de l’Enzo. Pendant le développement de la voiture, plusieurs caisses ont été essayées afin d’obtenir la rigidité la plus forte. La volonté de perfection était telle que c’est Ayrton Senna en personne qui s’occupa de la mise au point de la NSX sur le circuit de Suzuka, ceci, en mocassins à glands, en résultat une célèbre séquence dans laquelle le pilote pousse l’auto jusqu’à ses derniers retranchements, enchaînant talon pointes et contrebraquages. La N(ew) S(port) (E)X(perimental) présentée en 1989 au Salon de Chicago allait surprendre tout le monde : 274 cv à 7 300 tours, 270 kilomètres par heure en pointe, et seulement 1370 kg, la Honda pouvait tenir une Ferrari 348. Surtout, la NSX se voulait facile, fiable, et confortable, tout le contraire d’une Ferrari virile, dure, bruyante et fougueuse. Livrée neuve en Italie par le concessionnaire Honda de Novara cette auto est une désirable version boite mécanique, bicolore. Elle fut importée en France au début des années 2000 dans la région de Biarritz où elle est restée jusqu’en 2009, année où elle fut acquise par le propriétaire actuel un collectionneur du Loiret. En très bel état notre NSX affiche 86000 km, un kilométrage faible pour ce modèle. It was imported into France in the early 2000s to the Biarritz region, where it remained until 2009, when it was acquired by its current owner, a collector from the Loiret region.
