2. 2R A Kashan silhouette ware pottery bowl
Persia, 12th/ 13th Century
of deep rounded form on a splayed foot, decorated in black under a turquoise glaze with cobalt blue rim, the well with a roundel containing a face, surrounded by quatrefoil motifs and a band of inscription, the exterior with large foliate motifs and a band of inscription
19.5 cm. diam.
Inscriptions: including the beginning of the second verse of a popular Persian quatrain attributed to Afzal al-Din Kashani; al-'izz al-da'im, 'Perpetual glory, undeciphered words and ending with the date 'The year 610 (1213-14)'.
