Lot no. 192
Service paperwork, documentation, invoices One of the most beautiful Ferrari 2+2 coupés Prestigious sports car of which only 3,300 units built Continuing the tradition of Ferrari 2+2 coupés equipped with a front-mounted V12 (330 GT, 365 GT, 400 and 412), the project to design the 456 was launched in 1989 before it resulted in its entry into the market in 1992. The Pininfarina designer gave special attention to the refined, discreet lines in an act of sporty one-upmanship, as seen in the two, twin tailpipes. The effort put into this car is remarkable and its aerodynamic lines were carefully designed. A retractable spoiler rises depending on the speed travelled. The sides are carved out to help cool the engine. With its fluid, understated lines, the 456 GT symbolises for some people the most beautiful Ferrari ever made and it is certainly on the list of legendary Ferrari creations. Capped by a wonderful commercial career, the 456 GT became the 456M GT (“M” for Modificata) and was shown at the 1998 Geneva Auto Show. Aesthetically, the back of the 456M hardly changed except for the only modification coming to the spoiler, which became fixed and was incorporated in the rear hood. The front was redesigned and the scoops were enlarged to allow for better cooling for its V12. It spent a long time in the wind tunnel to improve its aerodynamics. 3,300 units of the 456 GT (the two versions together) were manufactured until 2003 before the 612 Scaglietti took its place. Our 456M GT is dated from May 2001 and is equipped with an excellent 6-speed manual transmission. Its first owner was Italian and had the vehicle delivered new to Ferrari Toronto, in Canada, where he lived. When returning to Italy in 2002, he imported the car back into Europe. It was serviced regularly in Italy until 2008 when it changed hands and became the property of a German until 2011. The current owner is also a German collector who uses it as his “everyday car.” With 106,800 km (66,362 miles) on the odometer, it has its leather folder with its documentation and service invoices dating back to 2009 as well as its maintenance log. Several months ago, it was given a general servicing by a Ferrari specialist who changed the distribution belts and performed a complete inspection of the engine and the running gear. There are no fees to be paid on this vehicle and it remains one of the most sought after Ferrari 2+2 coupés.
