Based on the engraving "Marchand d'Images", by Anne Claude Philippe de Tubières, comte de Caylus, after Edme Bouchardon from the series "Études Prises dans le Bas Peuple où les Cris de Paris: Troisième Suite", published in 1738.
Reinicke's work reports for October 1744 include: "1 Tyroler, einen Tabulet-Kasten tragend, mit Bildern in der Hand, 9 Zoll hoch, in Thon bossiert" [1 Tyrolean carrying a Tabulet case, with pictures in his hand, 9 zoll high, modelled in clay]. Kaendler corrected the figure the same month: "Einen Tyroler Welcher allerley Waaren zu verkauffen träget, Corrigiret und in tüchtigen Stand gesetzet, zum Laager gehörig" [a Tyrolean who carries all manner of wares to sell, corrected and brought to fit state, for the storehouse].
