21. * KYOKUHŌ A Bronze Kōro (Incense Burner) and Cover Meiji era (1868-1912), late 19th/early 20th century Decorated in high relief of gilt, bronze, and shibuichi with birds flying among floral sprays on the body, the circular cover pierced and surmounted by a finial in the form of a seated sarumawashi (monkey trainer), holding a fruit and teasing his pet monkey clambering over his left shoulder, signed on the base with seal Dai Nihon Etchū no jū Kyokuhō iru (Cast by Kyokuhō of Etchū, Great Japan); with a tomobako wood storage box inscribed outside the lid Chōsan boshi (Three in the morning, four in the evening), inside the lid Dai Nihon Etchū no jū Kyokushō iru with a red square seal 17cm high (3).
