212. Niccolò Frangipane (Tarcento 1555-1600) Holy Family with St John the Baptist signed and dated 'NICOLAUS FRANGI/ PANIS PINXIT 1593' (on the ratchet, lower left) oil on canvas signed and dated 'NICOLAUS FRANGI/ PANIS PINXIT 1593'(on the rock, lower left, strengthened) oil on canvas 94.8 x 115.2cm (37 5/16 x 45 3/8in). Provenance Private Collection, Italy Little is known about the life of Niccolò Frangipane, who is recorded as working in Venice and the Marches during the second half of the 16th century. Inspired by Titian's works, he executed a number of sacred subjects, but was more successful in mythological scenes.
