Himalayan Art Resources item no. 4891 17.5 cm (6 7/8 in.) high A GILT COPPER ALLOY FIGURE OF VAJRAVARAHI NEPAL, DATED 1786 尼泊爾 1786年 銅鎏金金剛亥母像 Provenance: With Claude de Marteau, Brussels, by 1970s Encircled by a pierced flaming mandorla with an inner ring of skulls and vajras, the lithe dakini dances on a probe figure set on a triangular platform and round lotus base. She is adorned with a garland of severed heads and holds the power attributes of the curved knife and skull bowl. Compare with a figure of Vajrayogini dated 1880 (von Schroeder, Indo-Tibetan Bronzes, p. 390, no. 107B) that shares the same proportions and treatment of the beaded jewelry.
