STATUETTE DE VAJRAVARAHI EN ALLIAGE DE CUIVRE DORÉ NÉPAL, DATÉ 1786 Inscribed around the rim and back of the base, translated, 'In the (Nepal samvat) year 906 (1786 CE) .....(this image of) Sri 3 Vajra Varahi was made by (the eldest) Jamaman Sing and all of the family.' Himalayan Art Resources item no. 4891 17.5 cm (6 7/8 in.) high A GILT COPPER ALLOY FIGURE OF VAJRAVARAHI NEPAL, DATED 1786 尼泊爾 1786年 銅鎏金金剛亥母像 Provenance: With Claude de Marteau, Brussels, by 1970s Encircled by a pierced flaming mandorla with an inner ring of skulls and vajras, the lithe dakini dances on a probe figure set on a triangular platform and round lotus base. She is adorned with a garland of severed heads and holds the power attributes of the curved knife and skull bowl. Compare with a figure of Vajrayogini dated 1880 (von Schroeder, Indo-Tibetan Bronzes, p. 390, no. 107B) that shares the same proportions and treatment of the beaded jewelry.
