Presented by Picasso to his doctor, Professor Jean Julien, in gratitude for services rendered, including the authorisation given to allow Picasso, aged 24, to draw at the Saint-Lazare hospital.
Kept in the family from the outset, as was another drypoint sold at Cheverny on 11 June 2006 (L'abreuvoir, chevaux au bain, 1906).
