Provenance With Galerie Joseph Hahn, Paris, where purchased by the present owner on the 29 October 1971 The present composition shows the essence of pastoral life, showcasing the harmonious interaction between the figures and their natural surroundings. Lush greenery and a gently flowing stream enhance the tranquil atmosphere, while the peasants are depicted engaged in daily activities, reflecting their connection to the land. Similar compositions, with peasants working in a rural landscape with a rocky arch or bridge, can be dated to circa 1790-1801 (See M. Gordon-Smith, Pillement, Krakow, 2006, p. 299, nos. 301-304).
