A Sèvres plate from the service given by Louis XVI to Archduke Ferdinand of Austria, circa 1785 Painted by Cyprien-Julien Hirel de Choisy with roses on a maroon ground surrounded by a band of pearls and gilt borders, the blue-ground rim reserved with three cartouches enclosing flowers surrounded by berried laurel garlands and flanked by gilt foliage, alternating with gilt floral and foliate motifs and gilt beaded bands, 24cm across, interlaced LL monogram enclosing date letters "hh" and painter's mark in blue, incised 33 (minor wear) Provenance Given by Louis XVI, King of France, to Ferdinand Karl Anton Joseph Johann Stanislaus, Archduke of Austria in 1786 See footnote for preceding lot (262) for more information.
