29. Meissen porcelain statuette depicting the frightened Harlequin, mid 18th century A Meissen figure of the frightened Harlequin, mid 18th century Modelled by J.J. Kaendler, wearing a gilt-edge purple hat with red rosette, a pale-yellow tunic reserved with playing cards and with turquoise rosettes, a slapstick to his right in the black belt, puce and white trousers and red-rimmed white shoes with yellow bows, the base applied with leaves and flowers, 16.5cm high (slapstick restored) Provenance: The Property of a Lady, sold at Sotheby's London, 14 March 1967, lot 138 Exhibited: Hohenberg an der Eger, Porzellanikon - Staatliches Museum für Porzellan, permanent display, 2018-2023 Comparable examples are in the Birmingham Museum of Art, Alabama, inv. 1991.324 (The Eugenia Woodward Hitt Collection, published in Anne Forschler-Tarrant, "Eine bisher unbekannte Sammlung von Kaendler-Figuren," Keramos 198 (2008), fig. 14) and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, inv. 1982.60.308 (The Jack and Belle Linsky Collection).
