294. A rare Vienna two-handled vase, circa 1806
Painted with a night sky depicting, on one side, a full moon flanked by clouds, the reverse, lower body and foot with a profusion of stars, the inside rim and handle terminals silvered, 12.8cm high, shield mark in underglaze-blue, impressed date code 806 and numerals 59 and 6. (restored)
A similarly decorated cup and saucer in the Umĕleckoprůmyslové Museum, Prague, with date stamp for 1805 is illustrated E. Sturm-Bednarczyk/C. Jobst, Wiener Porzellan des Klassizismus, 2000, p. 34.
