This pair of hunting groups are known as caccine (caccia meaning "hunt"), probably based on the bronzes executed by Antonio Susini (1558-1624) after models by his master Giambologna (1529-1608). These bronzes were in turn based on fragmentary examples from Antiquity housed in the Palazzo dei Conservatori, Rome. Alessandro Biancalana suggests that these small statuettes were used both as table decoration as well as knobs on the covers of bottle coolers and tureens (Biancalana 2023, p. 202).
