300. A pair of gilt-bronze mounted baluster vases 'Bleu de Perse' by Charles Ficquenet à Sèvres, the gilt-bronze by Maison Gagneau, circa 1875 Each with moulded decoration of entwined dragons within shaped reserves, flanked by a horizontal key pattern band and surmounted by lappets to the neck issuing gilt-bronze elephant-shaped handles, and on a foliate base with S-shaped feet, one vase signed 'Ficquenet Sèvres' at the base and impressed 'Ch Ficquenet Sèvres' to the interior, the mounts marked 'GA' for Maison Gagneau, mounted as lamps and fitted for electricity, 53cm wide, 38cm high (21in wide, 14 1/2in high) These vases are reminiscent of the 'Bleu de Perse' related models created by Théodore Deck who invented this turquoise glaze which awarded him a prize at the Exposition Universelle des Arts Industriels, Paris, 1861. Maison Gagneau, the maker of these gilt-bronze mounts was a celebrated Parisian based atelier who supplied the best craftsman of the time including Deck, and was on the responsible for the bronzes committee of the Exposition Universelle of 1889. Charles Ficquenet was a ceramist artist and painter associated with the manufacture de Sèvres and active between 1855 and 1881.
