308. 308W Fine Transition period gilt bronze clock by Olin in Paris A fine and impressive second half of the 18th century French ormolu mantel clock representing Night and Day Olin a Paris Surmounted by a proud cockerel, one leg raised and his tail feathers erect, over a shaped base flanked to the left by a cherub in billowing robes with flowers in their hair and holding a flaming torch, to the right ahnd side stands another, their right arm raised and pointing upwards, an oil lamp in their left hand, all set on a bow-fronted base cast with a bold laurel-wreath border over coining and foliate boss-mounted feet. The signed 7 inch white enamel Roman and Arabic dial with finely pierced and engraved hands set behind a heavy cast bezel, with glazed pendulum aperture below. The rectangular twin train movement with silk suspension and outside countwheel strike on a bell, the backplate engraved ICO protected by a hinged solid door.
