308. A late 19th century French grande sonnerie striking carriage clock with alarm The case surmounted by a rectangular handle over a decorated moulded top with bevelled glass observation window, the sides supported by four Corinthian topped columns and interspersed with glazed observation windows, all raised on a similarly decorated moulded base further supported on four block feet. The 2.25 inch rectangular dial with Roman numerals and blued steel hands, with subsidiary Arabic alarm-setting dial to the lower section, all framed within a gilt mask. The underside with indicator lever for Grande Sonnerie – Silence – Petite Sonnerie. The movement powered by a pair of going barrels, united by four turned pillars, striking on a pair of blued steel gongs mounted to the backplate, the alarm train to the upper left, with silvered lever platform escapement, striking. 16cm high.
