She is depicted smiling whilst seated in 'royal ease'. With her right arm extended in the gesture of generosity, she is venerated as a liberator, able to free devotees from the chain of birth and rebirth. Compare the inset jewelry and the lotus flowers flanking her shoulders to another Tara image from the same period, sold at Bonhams, New York, 19 March 2018, lot 3015.
