32. A Meissen figure of a wood turner, circa 1750-55
Modelled by J.J. Kaendler and P. Reinicke, holding a turned vase in his left hand and a chisel in the right, wearing a black tricorn hat, puce jacket, white shirt, green apron and brown breeches, the scrollwork base edged in purple and modelled with part of a lathe and a turned finial to either side, 21.7cm high, crossed swords mark in underglaze-blue (restoration to his right fingers)
A similarly decorated example is in the Alan Shimmerman Collection (V. Sigalas/M. Chilton (eds.), All Walks of Life, 2022, no. 27; formerly in the collection of Sir Henry Tate, Bt., sold at Christie's London, 6 March 1995, lot 164).
