325. 325W Gilt bronze clock depicting young Zeus, by Ridel, Paris, early 19th century A fine early 19th century French ormolu mantel clock representing a young Zeus Ridel, Paris Surmounted by the young figure of Zeus, thunderbolts raised in his left hand as he sits astride an eagle with outstretched wings and open beak, set on an Ionic capital over the clock drum supported by two standing figures, each with a trumpet and laurel wreath to proclaim the victory, on circular pedestals to a low plinth with applied lion and swan mounts on acorn feet. The 5.5 inch white enamel dial with Arabic numerals, good matching pierced and engraved gilt hands and a concentric date hand. The large twin train movement with silk suspension and outside countwheel (with tapered crossings) striking on a bell. 66cms (2ft 2ins) high. An almost identical model was sold in Bonhams London 5 December 2014, lot 50.
