34. 34R 'NAVRATNA' NECKLACE ENAMEL, COLOURED STONES AND DIAMONDS Composed of a row of articulated links, decorated on the reverse with multicoloured enamel, set with rose-cut diamonds of various shapes, sapphires, a hessonite garnet, an emerald and an oval ruby, a cabochon of cat's eye and 'Corallium rubrum' coral, and a half 'Turbo marmoratus' cultured pearl, all held by a double round-link chain, French import hallmark for 18K (750°/00) gold, length 39.00 cm, gross weight 67.44 g. A Navratna is made up of nine precious stones representing the nine cosmic influences according to the Hindu astrological system known as Jyotish. Each of the stones represents the following elements: the ruby in the centre, representing the Sun, surrounded by the diamond for Venus, the pearl for the Moon, the red coral for Mars, the hessonite for Rahu (the ascending lunar node), the sapphire for Saturn, the cat's eye for Ketu (the descending lunar node), the yellow sapphire for Jupiter and the emerald for Mercury.
