34. A Doccia deep plate, circa 1748-53 Decorated a stampa or by transfer-printing in underglaze-blue with a scene of a man lounging in an Arcadian landscape, the rim with a narrow border reserved with four panels of peonies and foliage, the reverse with two flowering branches, 22.6cm diam. (faint star crack) Provenance With Mauro Berti, Florence Literature Biancalana, Alessandro, Porcellane Ginori a Doccia. La stanza delle meraviglie di casa Colli, 2023, pp.348-351, cat. 76 The present lot belongs to a group of plates produced a stampa or a riporto (via transfer printing) at the manufactory decorated with Arcadian or mythological landscapes after engravings from the 17th century, often taken from Torquato Tasso's La Gerusalemme liberata, published by Giambattista Albrizzi in 1745. In this case the male figure was taken from the title page of Canto XIX (Biancalana, 2023, p.348). Another plate from the same transfer-printed group, formerly in the Leproni collection, is in the British Museum, London (inv. 2010,8004.1). Two similar plates were in the Questa Collection, sold Sotheby's, Milan, 21 March 2005, lot 280A.
