37. A Meissen figure of a man playing bagpipes, circa 1745
Modelled by J.J. Kaendler, wearing a brown hat with purple band, a white, fur-lined cape over a gilt-edged iron-red sleeveless coat with a green ribbon and belt, over a gilt-edged pale-yellow waistcoat and white shirt, with blue stockings and black shoes, the base applied with flowers and leaves, 23.5cm high, crossed swords mark in underglaze-blue (minor restoration)

Based on the engraving "Ce spectacle ambulant" by Jean Daullé published in 1739 after a painting by Jacques Dumont.
Kaendler's Taxa includes: "1. alter Mann mit sehr abentheuerlichen Habit samt einen curiosen Dudel Sack, darauff er spielt" [1 old man with a very strange costume including a curious bagpipe that he plays].
