4. A Meissen figure of a sower, circa 1745
Modelled by P. Reinicke and J.J. Kaendler, wearing a black hat, turquoise waistcoat, white shirt and breeches and grey stockings, holding seeds in a swag around his neck and with a large open sack of seeds and a smaller sack to his right, 21cm high, faint traces of crossed swords mark in blue (right arm and hand restuck)
This figure is listed in Reinicke's work reports in June 1744: "1 Bauer, welcher säet, 10 Zoll hoch, in Thon bossirt" [1 farmer who sows, 10 zoll high, modelled in clay]. Kaendler corrected the model the same month: "Einen Bauers man im Modell Corrigiret wie er säet und ein Tuch mit gedrayde an sich hangen Wie auch 2. Säcke neben sich mit Saamen Werck stehen hat" [corrected the model of a farmer who sows and has a cloth with grain hanging on him, as well as two sacks with seeds standing next to him].
