Lot no. 41
41. STERLÉ: THREE DIAMOND 'FLOWER' CLIP BROOCHES, CIRCA 1950 Forming stylised flowers, the pistils set with brilliant-cut diamonds, the petals in twisted yellow gold wire, two brooches signed Sterlé, French hallmarks for 18K (750°/00) gold, master hallmarks, numbered, the largest 2.40 x 1.80 cm, the medium 2.10 x 1.50 cm, the smallest 2.00 x 1.20 cm, gross weight 14.63 g. After training in a Paris workshop, Pierre Sterlé set up as a jeweller at the age of twenty-nine. From 1934 until the end of his career, his creations were a great success, particularly with the emblematic personalities of his time, such as the great writer Colette, the actress Edwige Feuillère and members of the Egyptian royal family. His genius and original use of metals led him to develop haute joaillerie jewellery with unique styles, like these three brooches made from "knitted gold". They reflect the infinite imagination of the designer, who shapes metal with intensity to express the beauty of nature. Over the last thirty-five years, Sterlé has become one of the leading designers of fine jewellery, particularly for his brooches and lapel clips, which are now highly sought-after by collectors.
