The portrait of Eugène de Beauharnais derives from the original by Joseph Karl Stieler (1781-1858) now at the Pushkin Museum, Moscow (inv. Ж-1441), while the original portrait of the Princess Augusta-Amèlie is conserved at the Château de Rueil-Malmaison (inv. MM2008.18.1). In the latter portrait, Princess Augusta-Amèlie, is wearing the exceptional parure which included the 'Leuchtenberg necklace' which she later gifted to her mother-in-law, the Empress Joséphine de Beauharnais (1763-1814).
