A Meissen octagonal bowl from the Japanese Palace, circa 1730
Decorated in Kakiemon style with flowering branches on each side, scrolling floral and foliate border to the brown-edged rim, the interior with a single blossom and five radiating green sprigs 15cm diam. crossed swords in blue enamel to the base, incised Japanese Palace Inventory Mark N=456 over W (star-crack to the base)

A list of porcelain delivered from the warehouse to the Japanese Palace in 1734 includes '10 St. Zucker Copgen' [10 sugar bowls] with the palace inventory number 456, which is missing from the 1770 inventory (see C. Boltz, Japanisches Palais-Inventar 1770 und Turmzimmer-Inventar 1769, in Keramos 153 (1996), p. 92). Another with the same inventory number was sold by Christie's London, 31 May 2012, lot 621.
