Élève de l'Accademia Albertina de Turin entre 1884 et 1890, Cesare Saccaggi se spécialise à Rome où il entre en contact avec l'environnement de la "Rome byzantine" D'Annunzio, la peinture des préraffaélites et celle néo-pompéienne de Lawrence Alma-Tadema. Au cours des années 1890, sa production devienne éclectique avec des scènes classiques et orientales ainsi que scènes de genre. En 1895, il participe à la Permanente de Milan et à trois éditions successives de la Biennale de Venise, avant d'obtenir en 1900 une médaille de bronze à l'Exposition universelle internationale de Paris avec le pastel Alma Natura Ave, aujourd'hui à la GAM de Turin. Au début du XXe siècle, il séjourne quelques années à Paris où il participe à l'Exposition universelle et à trois éditions du Salon, se consacrant avec beaucoup de succès à des travaux graphiques de style Art nouveau en collaboration avec la Maison Goupil. A student of the Accademia Albertina in Turin between 1884 and 1890, Cesare Saccaggi worked in Rome, where he came into contact with the environment of D'Annunzio's "Byzantine Rome", the paintings of the pre-Raphaelites and that of Lawrence Alma-Tadema. During the 1890s, his production was an eclectic mix of classical and oriental scenes as well as genre scenes. In 1895, he participated in the Permanente in Milan and in three successive editions of the Venice Biennale, before obtaining a bronze medal in 1900 at the Universal International Exhibition in Paris with the pastel Alma Natura Ave, (Turin GAM). At the beginning of the 20th century, he spent a few years in Paris where he took part in the Universal Exhibition and three editions of the Salon, devoting himself with great success to graphic works in the Art Nouveau style in collaboration with the Maison Goupil.
