This large painting, executed in a manner characteristic of the artist, depicts a landscape animated by the drunken entourage of Bacchus, gathered to present offerings to Venus.
A closely related version, on a smaller scale, with minor variations is recorded by Giuseppe Maria Pilo as in a private collection, Belluno (see G. M. Pilo, Carpioni, Venice, 1961, p. 86, ill. 100). The composition also relates to the series of Bacchanalian scenes preserved in the Museum of Fine Arts, Budapest (inv. nos. 599, 622, 623, see idem, pp. 89-91).
