51. A Doccia group of Turks, circa 1760-65
The group modelled with a man and a woman in polychrome Oriental dress, he in a red-striped tunic decorated with red flowers and a striped blue sash, she wearing a blue-lined puce-decorated robe over a red tunic with a gold belt, both wearing black carnival masks, standing on a puce rocaille-moulded base, 10.5cm high, incised "4 4" (necks restored)

Biancalana suggests that the male figure may be after the engraving "Chatir / ou Valet de pied du Grand Visir (no. 28)" and the female figure after the "Fille Turque (no. 50)" both by Gérard Scotin and published in 1714 in Recueil de cent estampes représentant les diverses nations du Levant, tirées d'après nature en 1707 et 1708 par les Ordres de M. de Ferriol Ambassadeur du Roi a la Porte (Biancalana, 2023, p. 185-186).
