A rare pair of Delft earthenware equestrian groups, Netherlands, second quarter of the 18th century A rare pair of Dutch Delft equestrian groups, second quarter 18th century Each with a gentleman wearing a dark tricorne hat, each horse with an elaborate fringed chabraque and headgear, standing on rectangular naturalistic grassy bases, circa 30cm high, both ears and the horse's left leg restored on one horse, the other group in very good condition overall (2) Published: R. Highlights from the Vanhyfte Collection (2003) Provenance: Vanhyfte Collection (paper label to the base); With Aronson Antiquairs, Amsterdam, where purchased by the present owner Figural sculptures of horses in Dutch delftware are exceedingly rare. Even rare are horses with riders of a larger size such as this pair. Another pair of a slightly later date is in the collection of the Kunstmuseum Den Haag, The Lavino Collection, in.no. 1059994
