52. 52AR MARTHE WERY (1930-2005) Untitled 2003 Acrylic on aluminium Acryl op aluminium Acrylic on aluminium 175 x 150 cm Provenance / Herkomst Galerie Micheline Szwajcer, Antwerp Private collection / privécollectie, Belgium A certificate from the Galerie Micheline Szwajcer will be given to the buyer "There is nothing to perfect, but always to complete, to pursue". This quote from Marthe Wéry reveals the exacting standards and rigour of her artistic approach. Marthe Wéry has been working on the pictorial surface for over thirty years, without ever giving in to the ease of refinement or the sophistication of materials and colours. On the contrary, the artist seeks to anchor her work in reality by confronting her painting with the space and context in which it is presented. Although her work is sometimes described as inaffective, Marthe Wéry admits to a desire for impersonality. What's important is the search for colour for its own sake, through the interplay of light. The experiments pursued within the painting or in relation to architecture have but one aim: to remain in perpetual movement, and to extend her work indefinitely.
