Strip-tease is the mechanical symbol of a curious interpretation, in a sexy key, of modern life: it is a sculpture of pieces fitting into one another, according to an idea of motion, fixed however into a type of static device. There is in this sculpture the violent impetus of a gesture which becomes translated into a rhythm. Another series of 1962 comprises Strip-tease mobile (cat. 57, pl. 42), in six detachable elements, [...]; these are creations inspired by figurative models, but transformed into elements, which stand between the object and the abstract synthesis of the human form; a stylistic hybrid which could be described as a kind of robot in which mechanical movement simulates the movement of the limbs and the rhythm of an action, referable to breathing, to intermittent heating, often in an ironical or paradoxal sense, which liberates the statue from its fixed immobility.
