The Study of the Old man in the centre is a preparatory study for the painting La marche silencieuse (La procession), painted by the artist in 1917 (see Literature, p. 254, n. 403, ill.); the Study of young girl on the right is a preparatory study forone of the young ladies in the Jour de fête (see Literature, p. 193, n. 142, ill.).
