56. An early 19th century gold and enamelled snuff box
apparently unmarked, apart from later French control marks
Rectangular with canted corners, the lid painted with a scene of the symbols of fecundity, the goddess Ceres and a young mother and child on translucent blue enamel over banded engine-turning, bordered with paillions on white enamel, the sides with repeated blue enamel panels separated by urn pilasters, length 7.9cm, weight gross 71.8gms.
