57. A very rare early Meissen Hausmaler bowl and cover, circa 1715-20, decorated in Augsburg 1725-30 Of flared, faceted form moulded with flutes and a stiff leaf border around the base, decorated in Augsburg, probably in the Auffenwerth workshop, with gilt flutes within purple and red scrollwork alternating with magenta flutes enclosed by gilt strapwork, the interior, alternating stiff leaves and the footrim gilt, the cover moulded with panels with a raised circle and a stiff-leaf border, correspondingly decorated, enclosing a gilt band with moulded foliage around the finial, 10.5cm high (minor chips beneath rim of cover) (2) Provenance Anon. sale, Sotheby's London, 16-17 June 1987, lot 95 The decoration on a similar bowl and cover now in the Dresden porcelain collection, inv. no. PE 935, formerly attributed to the to the workshop of Georg Funcke, is now considered the work of Augsburg decorators. The dotted scroll- and strapwork motifs are characteristic of the Auffenwerth workshop, as, for example, the waste bowl from the Hosennestel Service attributed to Sabina Auffenwerth, sold at Bonhams London, 22 July 2020, lot 77.
