We would like to thank Claude Orset and Elisabeth Maréchaux Laurentin for confirming that this drawing was in the Steinlen archives for the publication of the catalogue raisonné of the work of Théophile Alexandre Steinlen. Provenance Dr. Sali Guggenheim Collection, Switzerland. Kunsthandel Ivo Bouwman, The Hague. Collection John and Johanna Meulkens, Netherlands (acquired from them in November 1995). Exhibition The Hague, Ivo Bouwman, 20 drawings for Gil Blas illustré 1892-1895, 3 November - 19 November 1995 no. 17 (illustrated); (then travelled to London, Stoppenbach & Delestre). Served as an illustration for a song written by A. Cellarius and set to music by Felix Chaudoir. This work is accompanied by a lithograph (37 x 25 cm.) taken from the newspaper Gil Blas.
