67. A GOLD-LACQUERED WOOD FIGURE OF JŪICHIMEN KANNON Edo period (1615-1868), 19th century The figure standing dressed in flowing robes, open at the chest and falling loosely across the thighs, the hair gathered in tall chignon and set off with a crown adorned with nine heads of bodhisattvas and one of Amida Buddha, the right hand in the yogan'in (welcoming gesture) and the left hand holding a lotus flower with a pendant tassel, the figure set on a rock base with a separately carved mandorla of swirling clouds and Sanskrit characters 28cm high, figure only; 63cm high overall (3).
