Isabelle de Borchgrave returned regularly each winter to a legendary hotel, Le Cipriani, whose walls she painted in trompe-l'oeil with Fortuny fabrics. Each time she visited, she added drawings and watercolours to her notebooks. With the stroke of a brush, the city would emerge from the watery lights of the lagoon, with its canals and vaporettos, its taxis and gondolas, its bridges and facades.
Taken together, this notebook reveals an intimate and sumptuous Venice, a testimony to the many journeys we have made to the heart of the Serenissima. This is the basis of the book Mes carnets de Venise, 2004, published by Flammarion.
