7. * W Two carved of figure of flanking angels , Flanders, follower or circle of Jan Borman I (active circa 1460-1502), circa 1460-1480 The angels share similarities with a pair of Angels Carrying Candles in the Detroit Institute of Arts (inv. nos. 25.18-19), which have been recently attributed to Jan I Borman, and an angel sold at Sotheby's Old Master Sculpture & Works of Art on 3 December 2019, lot 21. There are analogies in the angular composition, the facial features with almond-shaped eyes with heavy lids, the long tubular folds of the drapery, the staples and weightless hanging curls of hair, which also appear in the figure of St John from the Arenberg Lamentation, as well as in an angel from the former collection of Baron de Decker and in the six angels from a Calvary in the Mayer van den Bergh Museum in Antwerp (op. cit., fig. 45), all now attributed to Jan Borman I.
