70. 70AR ANDRE LANSKOY (1902-1976) Composition Circa 1949 Signed lower right Oil on canvas Getekend rechtsonder Olieverf op doek Signed lower right Oil on canvas 60 x 72 cm Provenance / Herkomst Galerie Claude Bernard, Paris Private collection / privécollectie, Brussels The authenticity of this work has been kindly confirmed by Chloé Thibault of the Lanskoy Committee. The work will be included in the catalogue raisonné André Lanskoy was a figurative painter in the Slavic tradition, with stark interiors and a very 'flat' perspective. From 1938, his painting evolved towards abstraction. He began to produce a series in which he gradually revised his concept of the division of space. Very geometric, with large white lines cutting through his still figurative subjects, he freed himself from representation as his work progressed, breaking down the forms, transforming the figures of yesteryear into an assemblage of soft spots.
