Wim Delvoye is a contemporary Belgian neo-conceptual artist known for his provocative and innovative works that mix philosophical concepts with diverse materials, often challenging the limits of traditional art.
He creates a distinctly Belgian world, heir to surrealism, of course, a kind of surrealism 2.0, but also to Warhol's Factory and the idea that art is a commodity. We could also see him as the worthy younger brother of Panamarenko, another Fleming, who built flying machines that couldn't fly - and that delighted him. Let us also dare to go back to Bosch's imagery, to believe that the Flat Land of Flanders allows the imagination to soar.
